Yeovil VC Women's Team Runners Up at SW Champs 2018

13th May 2018

Yeovil Volleyball Club's women's team finished this weekend's SW Champs 2018 as runners up, loosing 2-0 in the final to Bristol Ladies.

Yeovil Volleyball Club's women's team have just been crowned champions of the Volleyball England National Volleyball League Division 3 South West and were looking to come to this end of season indoor tournament and continue the great form they have shown all season.

The competion brings together men's and women's volleyball teams from all over the South West of England ranging in standard from local, through regional and up to national league standard. Rather than the normal match format of best of three or five sets all the pool matches were timed.

The women settled in well and at the end of day one were unbeaten in their pool as were Bristol Ladies in their pool. Cue a well earned night out, joined by the club's men's team - Chinese buffet followed by a boogie!

Sunday morning dawned and it was back to business. The women closed out their remaining pool matches without loosing to reach the semi-finals that saw them pitted against Torexe, a fellow team from National League division 3SW that season. Following a tight, battling match Yeovil won 24-20.

That lined up a final with Bristol Ladies who beat Bemi Brunel 27-23 in the other semi-final. The Bristol team were based on their National League team that will be playing in Volleyball England's new top league next season - the "Super League". The format for the final was the more standard best of three sets. The match saw some great rallies with both sides defending well but ultimately the superior hitting and blocking of Bristol's players saw them win 2-0 (25-12, 25-9).

At the end of tournament presentations there was a final suprise as the club's Jacky Pang was presented with the spirit of the tournament award having played, coached, refereed and mentored other referees during the course of the weekend tournament.
