End of 2022-23 Season Indoor League

21st April 2023

The 2022-23 indoor volleyball season has come to an end for the club's three league teams: SW Women & SW Men who compete in the  SWVA regional league and local league Men's team "Yeovolley" who compete in the Men's Division 2 of the BDVA local league.

SW Women

This season the team finished 5th out of ten teams, one position higher than last season with junior players continuing to feed into and strengthening the squad. The women's team captain Jolanta Gasiorowska Wodz won the season's Most Valuable Player (MVP) competition, shared with 5 other players! This continues on from last season's success where fellow team member Jenny Manarang also won the MVP award.

SW Men

The men's team continue a period of transformation with new juniors feeding into the squad to try and compensate for the ongoing exodus of experienced players retiring. The team has also seen a change in coach and captain. with Denis Groves and Alan Bates picking up the reins respectively. While the final league position was disappointing, finishing bottom of the league in 10th position, it has been very satisfying to see the newer players continue to develop and improve their skill level and confidence. Pre- and end-of-season team socials have greatly helped ensure that the strong squad bond endures during the player transition.

Alan Bates and James Bibby (last season's MVP) both finished equal second in this season's MVP competition.

BDVA Men

The team finished 4th out of eight teams which is an improvement over last season's 5th position out of seven teams. In their third season, the team's squad continued to grow,  develop and got stronger as the season progressed and required less support from SW squad players.

The club's SW teams' attention now turns to the end of Season indoor tournaments: the women's and men's Exeter Challenges in April and the SW Championships in May.
