The 2024-25 indoor volleyball season has come to an end for the club's four league teams: SW Women & SW Men who compete in the Premier and Div 1 divisions respectively of the SWVA regional league and local league Men & Mixed teams who both compete in their respective Division 2 of the BDVA local league. A brief round up of how they got on this season follows.
This season was the second where the the women's teams were split into 2 divisions. While the team had a strong start to the season they dropped away as the season progressed and could not quite match their runners up spot from last season and the team finished third out of the six teams in the division. For the second year running, Jenny Manarang, narrowly missed out on the division's Most Valuable Player (MVP) by one vote again.
In the first season in recent times where the Men's competition has been split into two divisions the men's team found themselves in the second teir despite their improved performance in the previous season. The squad jointly decided at the start of the season that the team target was to get promotion into the premier division, prioritising results over balanced court time for the squad. Despite a couple of tough new teams entering the league the team finished second out of the eight teams and should achieve their goal of promotion.
James Bibby was unable to match last season's 2nd MVP title, falling a couple of votes short, while special mention goes to the team's libero Alex Maranan finishing high on the MVP leader board emphasising how the introduction of a libero has strengthened the team.
After five seasons of finishing mid table, our second men's team really gelled this season and finished runners up out of nine teams which should secure promotion. The team's squad was regularly augmented with Mixed team players to develop their experience and the squad is looking forward to the challenge the division 1 teams will bring next season.
The club entered a Mixed team into the BDVA Mixed Divsion 2 again this season, continuing the teams resurrection since the COVID-19 lock downs. This team allows the club's members that are new to the sport, both junior and adult, to experience some competitive (but still fun!) competitive volleyball and is a great learning environment for them all. While the team finished last again this season, they showed that they had mproved on last season by winning 3 matches.
